This year I refused to let Spring catch me off guard and neither should you. By that I mean, getting so comfortable with my winter boots that when the random day of 50+ degree weather hits, you're not scrambling for shoes to put on. Not this year.

I started the search for cute/stylish/semi-sexy flat shoes that will go with about anything and have some personality. You should do the same. Try to break away from the standard colors and go for umph.

As I browsed Macy's (yes it's worth the crowds because of the coupons you get to use), I came across the Nine West section and right there was the perfect flat - they call it Naughty.

It comes in a bunch of colors and styles. I highly suggest the Black/White Fabric which is really that with a touch of color in the form of a watercolor like floral design. Super comfortable and the busy design let's you get away with not having an abundance of accessories. Economical and chic. You can find the shoe at Zappos. You can definitely elect for the bronze and silver colors; they have a classy sparkling touch.

Definitely try to get at Macy's so you can use their coupon. It was recently on sales as their Everyday Value.

Don't ask what took me so long to wine and dine at Mario Batali's OTTO, but I finally did and highly recommend it.

It is perfect for girl chat, a date or catching up with whoever (college friend, co-workers or even a fun client).

The scene is expected NYC, but there is nothing fake or stoosh about it. You are greeted by a warm hostess and once you give your name and number in your party, you're handed a paper with your "train" name. Yes I said train. They have this cool flip board that works just like Amtraks arrival/departure screen.

I love this because once you check-in, head to the bar and get a bottle of wine to share with friends at one of the many standing tables - As you wait for your train - After the first sip the estimated hour wait the waitress told you means absolutely nothing.

Oh yes and I did say bottle. The wine list is extensive and vary in price from $29 to $200 ( I am sure there were higher price points - I just stopped looking). Yes you can have a glass but this is where you go buy a bottle and sip with two other friends.

The food menu is a quarter size of the wine list but good. I suggest ordering a salad; pasta dish and pizza for 2-3 people, more folks add in another dish. The food is delicious and not expensive at all - $8 salads; $9 pastas and $13 pizzas. With the split bottle total affordable classic NY evening.

Suggestion: Try making it a spot where you have a standing meeting with select friends. Maybe every 3rd Wednesday you guys meet and chat there (over a bottle...lol).

I can't wait to go back!

Rocking It Solo

I recently took on a long overdue challenge- eating dinner alone.

Maybe some of you have done this already and can chime in how great and a must-do it is.

Here is what every woman needs to do at some point. Have drink and/or dinner at a restaurant by yourself, preferably at the bar area of the restaurant.

Why:

One of the best ways to prove you are comfortable on your own.

You meet some of the most amazing people. You will be surprise of the great conversations you can have with the bartender and people around you. They are in awe that you can do this on your own.

What better way to try a dish or venue that has been on your wish list, without having to wait for friends to go.

This screams independence!

I recently did this at Planet Thailand 212 and it was a great experience. The bartender Matt was amazing and my curry duck was delicious. I even got to meet the manager and tried a dish with a drink for free. The benefits of rocking it solo.

Oh D'Mai

For my birthday each year for the past 3 years I take the day off and go spa-ing. I wish I could do it more often but time and money sometimes is a barrier.

However, my favorite spa that I revisit each year is having a special which I hope you can enjoy. D'Mai Urban Spa, located in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn, is offering 20% off it services if booked between Monday -Thursday, starting now to December 31st.

Their prices are already reasonable and the place is fabulous. The reasons why I love it:

Colorful Strides

It's amazing how when you cut back on shopping it forces you to really re-look your wardrobe and make it happen.

Accessorizing has been the cure to stay fashionable and economical. What a necklace; bracelet; pin and even stockings can do is life saving for any shop-o-holic.

Try this: Revisit your skirts and dresses and say goodbye to the black and flesh tone tights/stockings and get some color in your life. Don't even put a lot of thought into it.

Most retailers like Gap and Ann Taylor are selling some fun colorful and/or interesting design tights to bring life to an ordinary outfit.

But you don't even need to go there. Try your major department store where the prices are cheaper and the selection is larger. My favorite is Macy's Herald Square. Go to the 1.5 floor and right there it is like stepping into tights wonderland. There is one line called Hue and they have every color and design under the sun. Use your Macy's coupon if you can. Just grab 2-3 of your favorite color tights and it will all come together. If you are scared take small steps with these colors 1) Blueish/gray; 2) brown with textured design and 3) dark purple/magenta

On a not so bad winter day I have worn opague colored tights with stack heel platform sandals from the summer. It works!

Go step it up a bit!

To Eat or To Wear Your Fruits and Veggies

I have a pretty sensitive nose and can pick up a stench a mile away, so I greatly appreciate the smell of clean. It makes me wonder with all the types of scents out there, from sweet to savory what about the idea of just smelling fresh and clean?

I feel very strongly and highly recommend that with body washes and lotions you keep a a natural fresh scent. My recommendation for a great clean start each day is:

Step 1: Start with a moisturizing and gentle maybe warm scented body wash (i.e. Oil of Olay Ultra Moisture with Shea Butter body wash or SoftSoap Ultra Rich Shea Butter body wash.
Step 2: Make sure your lotion isn't too strong in a fragrance leaving room for your perfume to do her job. I really love and recommend Nivea Origianl Moisture and Jergens Original Scent - Cherry Almond

Remember people are around you all day and you want to smell according to how you want others to interact with you; do you want them energized (maybe something with Ginseng or Eucalyptus) or feel really comfortable in your presence (linen, fresh cotton scent).

Enjoy and remember to be mindful on how you layer on your scents from body wash to lotion to perfume.

Beauty Tip - For Happy Feet

With summer fun comes summer beauty maintenance.

Now, we all may have something we want to change about our feet. One of the main changes many will like to make is the removal of that little friend on top of the toe that is obvious because it's like 3 shades lighter than you. (I will assume you know what I mean..hmmm)

A very quick and easy fix to that is your handy dandy concealer. Yes, I said it, dab concealer on that bad boy and Voila! it practically disappears and you and the people across the train car are all happy!

The purchase process:

Try a creamy stick foundation. Black Opal works pretty well regardless of your complexion.
This should be a cheap purchase at your local Duane Reade or CVS.
Get one about a share or two darker than you. Remember if you select one as you select for your face it's not going to cover. Unlike your face you want to go darker or exact shade to your feet.
This is a great way to use that old concealer that was just not working for you months ago
Get a small size so you can carry around
Last, be mindful of the adjustment you made and don't put your feet up in some one's white couch.

Stack'Em Up

Summer stated like a month ago, but for you ladies in NYC with 20+ days of rain it didn't quite feel so.

But if you hesitated to get a jump start on your summer foot wear don't take too long. A huge hit right now are the stack heel shoes. These somewhat platform like 3" heels are a super plus for our concrete jungle.

The fat heels don't fall victim to the sidewalk cracks, and
They are super comfortable to take you from subway to work and then play

One designer who got it right and super super comfortable is Kenneth Cole Reaction. His stack sandals feel like sneakers (I admittedly have 2 pairs).

While checking out Forever 21 with friends this past weekend ( I haven't been to this store in a while - I can take it small doses), I stumbled across one of their "Fabulous Finds" and it was quite fab! Me and my friends all scored a pair of skinny jeans for $12.50. We all vary in sizes and heights and it was a nice fit for everyone because of the stretch. These will be my tunic wear or sexy club going jeans.

Make sure to not shy away from their accessories. While you are cutting back on buying clothes because of economic conditions you can do affordable accessories to spice up what you already own...there are a ton of pearl like designs (necklaces and bracelets) that give that sexy lady feel.

Fool-Proof DIY Networking

When the word networking comes up, sometimes the first reaction is the same as being told can you give a presentation to 100 people on XYZ - people get nervous and think of it as a chore they know they have to do but don't always want to do.

Worry no more because there is a great way to network within the comfort of friends and soon-to-be friends, here is our recipe to success:

Whether it is you alone or with a friend, think of no more than 10 people you would like to bring together. They may have professional and personal interests in common and then again they may not.
If you host a get together with a friend, each of you should be responsible for half of the invites.
It is extremely beneficial if the invitees don't know each other or may be familiar but not that well . This is not girlfriend outing time and no one person should feel like the new kid on the block, everyone should feel new to each other.
Balance your invites with your outgoing and your introvert/shy associates. For the friend you have been trying to get out to events or who expresses displeasure of networking this will be a great and safe environment to get them started.
Pick a tea house or brunch venue to have the event. There are many inexpensive brunch venues on the weekends and tea houses just have a natural good environment for conversations.
Oh and yes have it on the weekend vs. after work so everyone can be clear minded and rested.
Work with the venue to establish a pre-fix menu if they don't have . Many restaurants that have a brunch menu have a set price and tea houses usually have a scone, finger sandwich and cookies/dessert platter. The last thing you want to think about after a good chat is diving the bill. Provide the group with the cost that will factor in tax and tip prior to the event. Example: At Alice Teacup we did the Mad Hatters and it worked out to about $22 including tax and tip and all invitees were made aware that was the food setting being order, but of course can choose their types of sandwiches, scones, etc.
Be a superb host. Have everyone introduce themselves, but don't be shy about gluing them together. Tell them why they were invited and what you knew they had in common with others - be the connector!
Secret to success: Is that its a small manageable group where real conversations can be had. It is personal and there is nothing like receiving a personal invite

With the weather clearing up, go out there and plan a networking brunch/tea house event. Below are some suggestions based on experience:

Alice's Tea Cup: There are several locations now. I found success at the 64th street & Lexington one because its bigger
Franchia: This is a vegetarian Korean tea house. Great for your a group that is particularly health conscious and includes vegans/vegetarians. Not for meat lovers.
Coco Rocco: Two locations in Brooklyn, a darn good cheap and tasty brunch $9.95. You will love it.
Libations: I just had brunch here today for such an event. Never knew they served food...lol. Delicious brunch means for $19. (I can speak for the steak and eggs - yummy)
Tea Map: This is a GREAT resource to find local area tea houses. I used it many times.

Prime Time

I always wonder how can I make my make up last for a full day or at least a full work day. I was told a while back that a primer can make a big difference, but I was reluctant because of my oily skin.

I finally gave in and tried Smashbox's primer which was good, but not for the oily skin types (maybe in the winter or when the air is really dry). But the primer that has worked best for me since mid last year and I can finally attest to is Laura Geller's Spackle.

It is very light weight and has a slight iridescent to it that makes you glow just a tad bit once makeup is applied.

My routine is to apply to my skin about 10-15 minutes after I applied my moisturizer. I think wait about another 5 minutes before applying my makeup.

For my oily skin, it has worked wonders. My face has an even tone, provided by the makeup that lasts all day. In the cases I do get a bit oily; it is as if the primer allows for equal distribution of the oil so I don't look gross.

A said benefit of primers are that is creates a barrier between your skin and the makeup to keep it healthy and smooth. I believer that, but also keep in mind the primer itself is a product that can have some affect.

I so wish I new about this site a year or two ago. You all have to not just visit but sign up on Mint.com. As they describe themselves it is a free personal finance software.

It aggregates all your accounts into one site and helps you to analyze your spend and savings however you want to slice it and dice it - no more saving receipts and organizing into excel.

Now you maybe thinking how can this site know all of your business. Think of it as the organizer to all the log-ins of your online accounts. From credit cards to student loans to even car payments and Roth IRAs, you sign in all your log-ins so that when you log in to mint.com account it pulls all those other log ins. Your net worth is calculated in seconds.

As a user for the past month, I am blown away by this site. It definitely made it clear how much I shopped at Target *sigh*

Investment Time - A Market Advantage

If you have a Roth IRA; IRA; 401K or any mutual fund investment you may have noticed in your most recent statement a 30%+ drop....yes I know it hurts soo bad:(

Looking at my statement I had to place a call to my Roth IRA provider - the lovely Fidelity - and with their 24/7 service I was able to get some guidance; in addition to research and recent conversations I had with trusted financial sources.

One thing I realized is that if you have the money this is the time to buy more shares of your investments funds. We must not look at it as dollars but as shares. Some funds are running low in the $5 - $7/share range. This made me recall the time I bought Bear Sterns at $5 a share when they were going through their stuff and when they were bought the stock rose to $10 and I made a few dollars.

If you are saving in these investment funds for retirement or major life purchases like a home, you have time so go ahead and purchase. Fellow blogger WellHeeled made a good point of this in her Shares, Not Dollars article.

During my holiday shopping I popped into the lovely Anthropologie (going straight to the sales section of course) and came across some very cute monogram mugs. At the time they were on sale for $3.95 but they are now backed to the regular price of $6.00. Still not bad.

My friends loved my mug so much I bought them each one - with their initials of course, so when they came over it was an initial tea party - get it?

So definitely go get your self a mug - it is the perfect comfy size for tea, coffee and even some morning oatmeal.

I always shop in the Anthropologie on 5th avenue and 16th street.

Easy Cooking...For Holidays & Everyday

Like many of you who are juggling career, personal life, organization commitments, family, etc. it feels like there isn't time to do the basic things like cooking yourself a easy delicious healthy meal. Since talks of the economy stress that we all do out best to save money, one of the easiest and most effective ways to save money is to cut back on eating out.

No more dining out = more cooking at home; and to not end up microwaving frozen foods that means planning ahead of time. Well I decided this weekend to cook shrimp scampi because it is so easy and tasty to do. In my quest to find a simple to follow recipe I came across www.startcooking.com.

What a site! I can literally watch every episode in one sitting. It is the combination of the animated narrator, the bright and visually appealing videos and the overall simple presentation that makes it such a great cooking reference.

Definitely bookmark this site. The site even goes over basics such as the three essential cooking knives you need and how to fry an egg (yes I have heard some of you out there are still struggling with this).

I guess I can put off cooking classes for a while:)

I recently went to Te Casan (for the first time) for one of those fashion fundraisers where a portion of the proceeds go to a charity. What a great event it was and the shoes were fabulous. Basically the sale breakdown as I recall goes as follows: Flats: $55; Pumps: $95; $Booties: $125. But the original cost for these shoes are $300 plus.

I did some close examination and research and the quality is up to par. The sale goes through the end of the month but the longer you wait you may miss your size.

My Favorite Lip Balm

When it comes to lip balms I am tres tres picky. The one thing I hate is a shiny gloss that does nothing but makes your lips appear moist but underneath it feels dry. That only leads to having a two-setp process of applying moisturizer and then your favorite shine (ex: MAC's lip glass).

Finally I found a shiny lip balm that REALLY works. C.O. Bigelow's Mentha Cinnamint Lip Shine. It truly moisturizes and adds a lasting sheen. I am very much impressed.

Retailer Bridges the GAP

I'm quite impress these days with Gap Inc. stores' collections - The Gap; Old Navy and Banana Republic.

All three stores had their horrible moments in the past: Old Navy thought they could be Forever 21; The Gap adopted the bright colors that Old Navy first launched with and Banana Republic just forgot about sophistication.

But now all three are back on track and I highly recommend to check out their stores ASAP for the great sales they are having.

BR: Has terrific jewel tone tops and dresses for awesome prices (their way of stimulating the shopping economy) - Tip: The one in SoHo on Broadway is surprisingly always stocked up, just battle the tourists

Gap: Has gone back to classic pieces and is also showcasing cute tops, skirts and dresses - Tip: try the one on 5th and 18th street

Old Gravy: Sometimes their stuff is too cute for the store itself. One thing is for sure they can easily check off your little black dress list. They always have a nice one in their collection. Tip: I've always scored with the 6th Ave and 19th street location.

People, we are in a damn recession! As much as I have fought it, I have resorted to vintage (a.k.a thrift) shopping. Don't get me wrong, I'm not too proud to wear a used piece of clothing but vintage shopping requires more effort and patience than shopping retail. With this crappy economic crisis we are in, I decided that forgoing some extra time to get some worthwhile vintage finds is worth keeping some extra loot in my pocket. Vintage shopping for the friends of fashion should come with a very strict set of rules. Here are my rules:

If you feel like you are paying to much then you are! If you find yourself trying to negotiate with yourself why paying that price is OK for secondhand or consigned new goods then that is a telltale sign of buyers remorse once you get home.

Remember cost includes tailoring, cleaning, hemming, re-buttoning, etc. If you start to add the costs of updating the garment before use and it is more than its worth...see Rule #1.

Aim for labels! Big labels! The ones you probably couldn't afford retail (even on sale). Some vintage stores recognize fashion labels and will hike up prizes but if you are patient you will find one or two high-end labels in mixed in the the $10 - $20 pile.

So basically all of your and our favorite stores are having great sales. Here is a very brief rundown/reminder:
- Zara: Sale prices as low as 50% off; best kept secret, kind of, is Zara shoes can be really comfortable. This is a great time to grab some pumps or cute sandals; fashionable outerwear (although it is hot now, it will be cool before you know it); and their cute angel hair spaghetti strap tanks - so basic but so sexy.
- Banana Republic: Many cute tops for work and also a good opportunity to grab a nice dress
- Urban Outfitters: Check them online as today is the last day to get an extra 20% off sale items. They have a ton of cute accessories on sale.
- Anthropologie: Yes, even with a sale they can still be pricey but they have racks and racks of goods on sale and a little digging might bring up some nice quality pieces that won't come out to $200+.
- Old Navy: Or as my friends like to say Old Gravy, they seem to be picking up the slack of the Gap and making nicer cuter clothes. Not all items are on sale but what they are offering is worth getting at full price.

I just went into a local Benetton during a stroll down the Union Square 5th ave. area and learned that Benetton expanded their yearly sale to the entire store - 50% off EVERYTHING!

The folks at the one on 5th and 19th (133 5th ave. 1 212 420- 5700) were really nice and helpful. They didn't say when the sale ends but it looks like it is a way for them to get inventory moving.
You can also try the one on Broadway and 8th street.

If you are in need of a suit this is a really good time to go.

I find a lot of people don't keep up with Benetton sales as with similar retailers like the Gap and Banana Republic; because of this they tend to have all sizes in stock a lot longer.

Express Yourself - Must Have Shirt

Ruffle tops are obvious a major trend this year but it is also a timeless style because of its classic feminine appeal; also because my mom is wearing her ruffles from the 80s and getting many compliments.

If you are in need of a a ruffle shirt that you can wear to work and out (yeah for multipurpose use) then definitely run over to your nearby Express and grab their Sleeveless Ruffle Blouse that was originally $49.50 and is now $24.50 (NYC = no tax). The colors they have are literally gems. Besides the basic black and cream they have a rich blue, pink and green. Hues from this past Fall's jewel colors but with enough punch that you can certainly where during all seasons (yes another score for multipurpose use - the best way to stretch the dollar in these here recession times).

My favorite Express location to grab sales items is the one near Union Square: 5th Avenue bet 18th and 19th street. Also you can try the two at 34th street/Herald Square (one in the Manhattan Mall and the other on 34th street bet 5th and 6th Aves - if one doesn't have it you can walk 3 minutes to the other).

Months ago I talked about how Old Navy has its moments of providing basic to key fashion pieces at very reasonable prices. I know I talk a great deal about being financially responsible and glamming it up on the budget....but sometimes I really want something for the sake of having it. For instance, I LOVE Chanel...such an iconic feminine and uber fabulous brand and I often daydream about touting a big 'ole Chanel bag on my shoulder down 5th Ave. I know there are fashionista's out there who feel the same. In fact, I once heard this woman calling into the Suze Orman show asking if it was O.K. for her to spend a WHOLE paycheck on limited edition Chanel clutch (DENIED!)

In the end, it is the desire to *feel* fabulous which causes brief glitches in our sanity from time to time. With that I offer an alternative! Get your fix of glam with the less expensive designer accent pieces. Let's say a watch, a wallet, or even nail polish...yes nail polish!!

I walked in to the SOHO Bloomingdales and picked-up this $19.00 bottle of Chanel Le Vernis. I just got this link via one of my favorite daily e-newsletters - Thrillist. The DollarTimes calculator helps you determine when you will be a millionaire depending on current savings, monthly contributions and your current rate of return.

For anyone that took accounting in college you may recall do a similar exercise where if you were to contribute about $85 a month starting at age 22 to an account with an average return of 10% you will have a million by your mid 40s. Basically it is not how much you save but when you start to save.

Let's talk money quickly, efficiently and effectively!

I wish I knew of this weeks ago, but we can't change the past and can only move forward. Suze Orman has teamed up with TD Ameritrade to offer a Money Market Deposit Accounts (MMDA) known as the Save Yourself Plan with no minimum deposit requirement - well sort of. Here is why and how to do it:

Why/Explanation of MMDA:
- A high-yield FDIC insured savings account that has less administrative fees, but is less liquid than a regular savings accounts, meaning there is a limit to how many checks/withdrawals can be made from the account.

- A great way to save money that you don't want to be tempted to touch. Maybe it is for an emergency account that is 3 months worth of your regular expenses in case something happens; saving for a new car or for a trip with friends overseas.

How To:
It is GREAT news and HUGE opportunity that Suze Orman and TD Ameritrade teamed up for this offer. Almost all, at least all of MMDA's I have seen, require a minimum deposit to open an account. Sometimes $500 but usually $1K or more. Why? Because MMDAs are designed for those that have substantial money in their savings account, and can put their money in a higher yielding (a higher interest rate) account to make more money.

Important Notes:
- No minimum deposit is necessary to open a Save Yourself Plan account, but you have to setup an automatic deposit for at least $50 a month. The first $50 has to be made within 30 days of opening the account - which is not bad at all.
- The GOOD CATCH is that after 12 consecutive months of deposits TD Ameritrade will deposit $100 into your account.

Additional Details:
- I did some research on BankRate.com and the MMDA yield ranged from 1.25% to 3.30% so TD Ameritrade's current 2.78% as of February 1st is on the higher end.
- You will get regular emails form Suze Orman to encourage you on your saving endeavours along the way.

Very Important:
- You need a code inside her book to get started, but of course I googled and found it. It is 701

This is a great way to open an MMDA without having to wait until you have $2,500 on hand.

Wax On. Wax Off.

I have this Love/Hate relationship with hair removal. I love the outcome but hate the process of getting there....and who doesn't! Razors leave awkward stubble in two hours. Depilatory creams STINK to high heaven and you have to stand as if your left leg is allergic to your right for 13 minutes to get your legs smooth. Lets not even get started on how much going to waxing salon costs...

In my quest to find a cheap, long lasting and EASY way to remove hair I stumbled across the Sally Hansen Hair Remover Wax Strip Kit (for body, legs, arms and bikini)

The box contains 15 double sided strips with pre-applied wax. You heat up the strip by clasping it between your hands and rubbing them together a la Mr Miyagi. Then peal the back side of the strip from the front side, which will leave you with 2 strips. Slap it on your place of choice and peel quickly while you hold the skin taught. You throw the used strip away and do it again! I won't lie you ...it hurts...but after all it's still waxing. But its worth enduring as the results last up to 8 weeks! I must say that I used it on my legs, which I did let growth for a couple of weeks for best results. Also, I tend to have very thin hair so I would imagine that also aided in achieving positive results from this product. Since the strips use a limited amount of wax so I would imagine it would not be as effective on course hair. So with that said, I definitely vouch for this kit! Happy Waxing ;-)

This may not be applicable to you all, but do remember that there are quite a number of online tax filing services - free of charge - based on your state and gross income.

For those of you that didn't have any unique situations during 2007 that requires a tax genius, try one of these sites for a free and quick tax return (that is if you are getting dollars back). Myself and several friends have used TaxAct over the years and it has been great. I definitely suggest, but once again only if your tax issues are not complicated.

Random but related note about Exemption/Allowances:

This topic keeps coming up in conversations these days. When you were hired and you filled out the W4 form and answered a couple questions with a "1" or "0" which you then totalled. Some of you single folks may have been told to put "0" while others followed directions and had a total of "2". So the number basically means how much taxes will be taken out per paycheck. It is legal to put "0" even if your total is not. You end up paying more taxes per check with a better chance of getting a tax refund. The higher that number on the W4 is the less taxes you pay per check and the result can be getting little to no refund to having to pay the government back.

There are a ton of sites out there like Bluefly that boasts great deals. But the quest continues to get those high-end designs at a much lower price.

Two sites to bookmark and add to your favorites: Gilt.com and Ideeli.com

These sites sell luxury brands at relatively low costs. So for example you an score a Tracy Reese dress for $182 that was originally $600+. The other plus is that the items for sale are not two or three years old, but current trends.

What is great about such sites is that you get the sample sale prices without having to rush during your lunch hour and clash with other desperately-seeking-good deals women and men.

I haven't bought from them, but am registered with Gilt.com and I love that you are notified in advance by email on when the sale will begin and can plan accordingly.

The catch with these sites is that they are invite only. So you can't just log-on and register. No fear KC did some digging:

Hunter Classic In MANY Colors

There is something about the Hunter Wellington Rain Boot I always loved. It has this classic feeling of a brand from back in the day, but able to make the female version in just the perfect amount of femininity. It is basic but yet girly and sexy and the same time - all in the details.

In my opinion it is worth to get these or something very close in version as the basic style and non-glossy shine, like many wellies we see out there, will transcend time.

I have always searched to see if these bad boys will ever go on sale. Currently I had no luck but I know there still must be a way. The typical price for these wellies is $98.

Right now ShopBop.com has them in a plethora of colors - I counted 11. Personally if there is a color you see that is not a common one to find such as Black, Green and Navy Blue, you may have to just go ahead and grab them while you can.

Stack Up on Sacco - IF you can

There is a very good reason I don't frequent Sacco Shoe stores - the prices.

But this past weekend I learned why they can charge such high dollars. Their shoes are super comfortable and and are the cutest. The designers definitely have a way of mixing current trends with timeless designs, so you can easily walk out with $200+ shoes that are very comfy and wearable for the next 10+ years.

SALE - Go Now If You Can!

They are having a decent sale, my friend just score two boots for a bit over $400. Definitely not cheap, but for someone like herself who has been in search for boots that fit her tiny tiny calves - no way could she pass up the two pairs of best fitting boots.

The online sale is not as good as the in-store. Also if the sales person says the shoe is not available elsewhere, I recommend to call or visit another location on your own. Sales people, they want the commission.

The big "IF" in the if you can means you should definitely have the disposable income necessary for such a splurge.

ALERT! Getting Pass J.Crew Final Sale

So by now a good number of you have been watching/stalking the jcrew.com final sale. The problem is no one wants to a make a purchase they can't try on, touch or feel and on top of that can't exchange or return later.

GREAT NEWS!!! I found a way around it. As I went to clean out my online shopping cart I noticed that items that were "not available" in the current final sale listing were still listed as available in my shopping bag.....that made me go hmm.

So this is how you can buy a Jcrew.com final sale item with out the red tape:

Get the exact name of the item you want ex: "Solid merino boatneck sweater dress."
Take that style name and Google it just as it is written. Don't add additional words like J.Crew to the search terms.
The first link you see will be a Jcrew.com link - click it.
This link will take you to the site and the exact page of the item you are looking for AND it will list it at the sales price. The best part you may even see sizes and colors you thought were sold out.
Select the size and color and add to your shopping bag. What you will notice is the ship date is much later. Most will say available in early March
Better yet - you will see that that small red writing of "Final sale, no exchanges or returns" is NOT THERE.

Verification - I called a customer service person and said that I had an item in my shopping cart from before the final sale, although that item is currently listed as final sale, can she confirm I won't have any problems returning or exchanging and she said - YES!

What's happening? - Looks like most of jcrew.com items are on sale but not on the current site pages. You will have to know what you are looking for and Google it. Also it seems many items are being reproduced or being brought out of inventory for a major March availability.

A co-worker had one hanging from her desk, holding her beautiful bag above the floor and off of her desk = space galore in these days of suitcase size bags.

The Purse Hook is one of those As Seen On TV products that make SO much sense. You wonder why it is not available everywhere and what took so long for it to come about. Well actually Starbucks use to install hooks under their tables, but who wants to touch and feel for that - gross.

No need to pay a bunch of dollars for this necessity, just $9.95. You can order online or purchase at Bed Bath & Beyond. Call before you go to BB&D because they were sold out for a good minute.

It comes in packs of 2 - one gold and one silver so no need to worry about you bag clashing.

FYI: there is a As Seen On TV store ( (212) 420-7647) in the indoor South Street Seaport mall - I only know this because I stalked the crap out of this hook. The owner doesn't have it yet, but it's just good to know there is a store.

Walking into work this morning, I dropped by a co-worker's desk to make small chat and saw that her area was just darn cute.

What caught my eye was the dozen yellow tulips that just brought life to an environment we probably list among our top three stress factors.

Of course the first thing I asked was "Who gave it to you?" and I loved the response "I did." Now how about that, when was the last time you did something beautiful for yourself?

So here is a non-traditional beauty tip (courtesy of Elizabeth *insert smile*):

- Stop in a local Whole Foods, they sell Tulips at $6 (most of the time) or a local grocery store and grab yourself some gorgeous flowers. No need for the fancy places that break your wallet.

- Drop a penny in and they will last even longer (that I also learned today).

- Voila you have an instant beautiful smile.

Restaurant/Loundge: Girl, Date or Group Chat

The quest continues and will forever go on to find those perfect places to get a good bite and soothing drink in an inviting environment without paying too high a price.

Just last night two friends introduced me to the restaurant and lounge Aspen, and I LOVED it!

The run down and tips:

Located on 30 West 22nd Street (bet 5th and 6th aves.), you can take the F, V, Path, R, W to 23rd street and walk over.

The design takes after a ski lounge that you will expect to come across in - Aspen! Casual dress, so there is no fashion stress.

Reservations recommended if you know you're going, but the front bar/lounge area is good for walk-ins. Still ask to be seated in the dining area. Here's the number: (212) 645-5040.

If you love a warm fire place ask to sit at the large somewhat communal table that has the fireplace as the center piece. It's gorgeous and brings warmth to the meal.

The Experience: For my first visit I had the Bison Sliders (you get 2 for $12 - these are really tasty) with a side of Fries ($6 and comes with a chipotle ketchup - yummy) and to seal the night with sweetness, the Snow Capped Cupcakes ($5 - 4 really tiny but perfect tasting cupcakes).

So if you ever need to go out on a date, have some girl talk with a friend or two, or catch up with a few buddies this is an easy place to go.

I am uber exited about the coming of the Sex and the City movie. I'm saying...we were teased for years over the possibility of the movie being filmed, and now its only a few months away. I will be there with bells on May 30th for the premiere and I hope Carrie and Co. won't disappoint. Who am I kidding, of course they won't!

My girlfriends and I are going to make it a day event including a mani/pedi at Dashing Diva, dinner and other goodies. Me, I'm preparing by ordering my "Carrie" necklace (In my name of course) from Limoges Jewelry. Oh..the excitement!!!

A favorite book to read that is a guarantee to get you thinking clearly and feeling ambitious about your life is Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. It's 174 pages front to back and a very easy read. So easy and so good you may want to purposely pace yourself.

So consider putting this on your last 2007 task or the first item of business for '08.

Many of you probably live and/or work in Manhattan, if neither you are probably in this borough a couple of weekends a month getting your shopping on.

For cute casual, trendy feminine neat pieces don't forget about Brooklyn Industries they produce just enough items of men's and women's clothing and accessories not to overwhelm you and to showcase the care and time they seemingly put into each piece.

Skin Care Knowledge: Acne Regime

A few months ago I paid a visit to St. Luke's Roosevelt - Skin of Color Center for a facial skin check. Whether you have good skin or not so good skin, there is nothing wrong in getting it checked out and making sure you are doing the right things and using the right products. Bring your bag of products with you to the derm too.

Put it this way, you can read all the magazines you want to try to figure out what works for you, but nothing is better than a custom consultation with a derm. Plus more than likely a monthly medical insurance fee comes out of your paycheck - so use it. I will say that the free Skin Physical at Sephora is just as good or even better - at least they won't shove prescriptions down your throat (which was my experience at the derm).

Below are a list of products and instructions from the Acne Regime worksheet I got from the derm:

Routine/Products:

Mornings - Wash face with water and a mild facial cleanser. Examples: Cetaphil; purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash; Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser; Neutrogena One Step Gentle Cleanser; Ambi Even and Clear Foaming Cleanser. Do not use harsh sponges or scrubs, your won hands are preferable.

Apply a moisturizer with sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher). Make sure it's mom-comedogenic (does not clog pores). Examples: Cetaphic Facial Moisturizer SPF 15; Purpose Moisture Lotion SPF 15; Purpose Redness Reducing Moisturizer SPF 30; Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture SPF 15; Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 30; Neutrogena Healthy Skin SPF 15; Ambi Even and Clear Daily Moisturizer SPF 30.

Evenings - Wash face with water and a mild facial cleanser as in the morning.

KC's 2 Cents: I have been using Biore products and found it to work wonderfully. Specifically the Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser and the Toner. As a night cream I use Clean and Clear's Advantage Moisturizer...it works for me and keeps my skin smooth.

A Stylish Must-Do Happy Hour

Who leaves work these days at 5PM to attend a 4-7PM Happy Hour? By the time you rush over to whatever bar it is you are just happy you made it time to make an order.

A favorite place for happy hour with style is Verlaine. I've been there about 4-5 times and it never lets me down.

Highlights:

It has a decent soothing ambiance to take away from the day's craziness

Happy hour is from 4-10PM - yes 10:00PM, 7 days a week!

Drink specials: Their delicious $4 Lychee Martinis; Sangrias, Vietnamese Bloody Marys; House red & white wines; Basic cocktails. Also 2 for 1 Bavaria Blond Lager

The food is also tasty and inexpensive - I recommend the dumplings, shrimp and their fried ginger chicken wings - yummy and a nice portion.

So chop chop and get there. It can be cool for a non-stuffy date; catch up time with the girls or one of many bar-hopping stops.

Oh and if after a couple of drinks you get those munchies... the pizza around there is delicious.

2 Shoe Brands - Remember This Fall

Rule #1 if you forgot - do not compromise your precious feet for a couple of dollars.

Easier said than done is what we all say, but we live on our feet everyday all day long.

There are two shoe brands that through experience I have come to love and respect for their above average comfort: BCBG Girls and Arturo Chiang. Some of you are probably thinking 1) Am I too old for a brand that has "girl" in its name and 2) who is Arturo Chiang?

I own about 3 pumps of BCBG Girls, collected in the past 2 years and they are the best. I wore those babies out! If you look at any of their pumps - and I prefer a 2" heel or less for work - they have a padding inside the shoe. Also the leather is never disgustingly hard around the edges.

As for Arturo Chiang, I have friends that worship his shoes and I tried on a number of them and the leather is so soft. Reminds me of what you will find in a Cole Haan store minus $250.

Now both these brands are not at the impulsive Nine West prices, but they are brands that if you get a nice basic pump or boot from them your feet will be VERY happy.

Important Thought: Why keep buying boots or pumps every year because of discomfort when you an invest in one nice pair and walk proudly.

As I always say, don't turn your nose to the department store - Macy's or Bloomies. You don't have to stay there forever. Know you are going there for the shoes, use a coupon and get out. Voila!

Tip: If you find a shoe or boot you like and not quite ready to buy, foe about 2 weeks just Google the style name and/or number. You never know what e-commerce site might have it cheaper.

I'm trying really hard to write this post with out going on and on...I really have so much to say. So long story short, if you or a friend or even your momma wants to tighten up your facial features then you must pick up The Tal Reinhart: Facial Workout. It is a full workout to scuplt your facials muscles and correct signs of aging.

I've been doing the work-out and I see a difference in my cheek bones and eyes. I definitely do not look as "tired", as I've been told, anymore. My mother who is a woman of a certain age has seen results, but importantly she feels great about it! I'm young and gravity hasn't hit my face yet but why wait until it does? This is a must have for all women 25 and up, unless you're Iman, lol.
